Legislator Stern honors Half Hollow Hills athletes

Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern (D-Huntington) 16th LD honored championship teams and athletes from the Half Hollow Hills School District before the Board of Education last month. The Boys Swim team, which is composed of athletes from High Schools East and West, won the countywide championship, as did the Boys Track Team from High School West. Additionally the "Wranglerettes", the kick-line squad from High School West, won the jazz and hip-hop dance competion of the Long Island Kickline Association, and the "Dixettes", the kick-line squad from High School East, won the overall kickline competition.

Tesia Harris was awarded a proclamation for scoring 1,000 points in her high school basketball career and High School West Boy's Varsity Basketball Coach Bill Mitaritonna was recognized for receiving the Suffolk County Basketball Officials Sportsmanship Award.

"I am proud to honor so many fine young athletes for their stellar achievements," Legislator Stern said. "They are not only exceptional athletes, but are excellent students as well. Half Hollow Hills truly is a Triple-A district, excelling in Athletics, Academics and the Arts. I am proud of all of these students, their coaches and teachers."
