North Babylon girls basketball team completes historical season The North Babylon varsity girls basketball Team has completed one of the finest athletic seasons that a program has ever had in the history of the school, finishing with a 23 - 2 record. Their only two losses were to Murray Bertram High School, ranked third in the nation, and Rush Henrietta High School, ranked in the top 19 in the nation. The North Babylon team finished as the fifth-ranked team in New York State as well as fifth in the Tri-State Area. The team also achieved what no girls; program has ever achieved in North Babylon - winning a County Championship title. The Lady Bulldogs did not just stop at the Suffolk County title. The team accomplished the following: Undefeated League Champions for third straight season; Suffolk County AA Champions, defeating Commack High School; Section XI Champions, defeating Wyandanch High School; Long Island AA Champions, defeating Hicksville High School; NYS Championship Finalists, defeating Kingston High School; New York State Scholar Athlete Team, with a team average of 91 percent. Our ladies represented North Babylon with class and dignity in the New York State Tournament and throughout the season. Three team members earned post-tournament honors at the state tournament in Troy: sophomore Eugenia McPherson and senior Chanel Chisholm earned All Tournament All-Star honors, and senior Dominique Grice earned the New York State Sportsmanship Award. Chanel Chisholm and Eugenia McPherson also received All-Long Island, All-County and All- League honors. Freshmen Bria Hartley and senior Dominique Grice won All-League honors and sophomore Maliqua Fisher won the league Rookie of the Year award. Chanel Chisholm also received the Suffolk County Women's Basketball Coaches Player of the Year award. This is a tremendous achievement for Chanel, being selected by all Suffolk Coaches as the very best player in Suffolk County. Head Coach Mike Petre won the Suffolk County Coaches and Newsday Coach of the Year Awards.
With only three graduating players, the team will surely continue their success into the future.
