West Gates students participatee in Jump Rope for Heart event

West Gates Elementary students successfully raised hundreds of dollars for the American Heart Association for their annual Jump Rope for Heart event. The school has participated in the special event for the past 10 years.

The younger grades focus on their jumping skills with hoop stations, jumping balls, hurdles and skip sticks. The older grades focus on jump rope with special skills such as one-foot jumping, criss-cross, and backward jumping.

"We are extremely proud of all efforts by all our students to raise money for this worthwhile cause," said PE teachers and organizers Kate Gilson and Anthony Mantovani.

"We practiced jump rope skills all month." Every student who participated received a certificate, a sticker and a coupon for a free sundae at Friendly's.

Fourth grader Krystina Carenza displays her jumping skills.
