Dorothy Appleyard: of N. Babylon Longtime North Babylon resident Dorothy R. Appleyard died March 19, 2007 after a long illness. She had lived in the same home since 1957. "She cherished the title of Grandma and loved nothing more than spending time with her grandson, Daniel," said her daughter Kerry-Ann who said her mom was one of the original Beacon Newspaper subscribers. She added that she will be missed for her wonderful sense of humor and fun-loving attitude. Born in East Meadow and raised on a potato farm there, she graduated from Hempstead High School. For many years she worked as a secretary to the comptroller at Fairchild Aviation. She leaves behind her husband, Francis; her daughter, Kerry-Ann Schaefer and her husband Donald; her grandson, Daniel; and her brother, Francis Johnson. She was predeceased by her first husband, Peter Napolitano; her parents, Mert and Mary Johnson; her siblings: Beulah O'Hearn, Jeanette McGroarty and James Johnson.
Mrs. Appleyard reposed at the Mangano Funeral Home in Deer Park on March 21 and 22, 2007. Interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park on March 23, 2007.
