National Child's PlayTouring Theatre selects Bellew Elementary School students to perform

Two Paul J. Bellew Elementary School students in West Islip had their original work selected by the National Child's Play Touring Theatre to be performed for their peers. Fifth grader Jessica Pace's work, titled Me Luck Gold, and kindergartner Lillian Dookram's "Monster City" were among thousands submitted in competition. The two girls received Certificates of Achievement for their creativity, while 18 of their peers received Honorable Mentions.

Dedicated exclusively to performing stories and poems written by young people, Child's Play is based in Chicago, but visited the Bellew School recently to perform the two award-winning entries. Both sets of parents were invited to the Child's Play performances as a surprise to the young writers. The event was sponsored by the Bellew PTA and coordinated by reading teacher Deanne Oricoli, who identified the 18 runners-up: Kaya Konopa, Jenna Argenta, Liam Kennedy, Ashley Taylor, Joseph DiStefano, Samantha Blair, Tommy Riley, Emily Beier, Calton Kelly, Rachel Bollinger, Samantha Damasco, Diana Castello, Victoria Koffsky, Eddie Flaherty, Lucas Seck, Alexis D'Amico, John Busweller, and Kristen Motisi. One hundred and forty Bellew students entered the competition.
