Lindenhurst High School peer leaders celebrate Cultural Diversity Month

Sam Moxin's Peer Leadership class sponsors Cultural Diversity Month every year. The goal is to expose students and faculty to several cultural experiences. To educate people on cultural differences, the class hopes that tolerance and acceptance will follow.

Cultural activities were planned, including a variety of food tasting, (Polish, Italian, Irish, German, Hispanic) dancing, (from India, step dancing, hip-hop/break dancing) and a Guide Dog Foundation demonstration. There was an "eclectic" food tasting day including foods from Turkey, Indonesia, Sweden, China, Nigeria and Egypt. All the foods were donated by the students and faculty and the dances were presented by student volunteers.

For the final day activity, the class painted their faces different colors and wore shirts with a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King "Don't judge me by the color of my skin, but, the content of my character."

Advisor Sam Moxin said the class is open to anyone interested in sharing their culture.

Shown in the photo are peer leaders with their faces painted and their "don't judge me" T-shirts.
