Although there was a chill in the air, gardeners know that planting season must be just around the corner. The April 9 meeting of the Sumpwams Garden Club was the start of the new club year and officers and committee chairpersons were installed. Margaret Daniel, president; Maxine Krantz, vice president; Joan Rasmussen, recording secretary; Jeanne Zeller, corresponding secretary and Marie Capitano, treasurer. The designs were invitational: Amateur - Elizabeth Karoly, Intermediate - Maxine Krantz, Advance I - Gloria Borish and Advance II - Antoinette Maiorini. The year end awards were Arink Awards for both design and horticulture - Antoinette Maiorini, the Alida Dorr Award for shows outside of Sumpwams Garden Club - Marie Capitano and the Bader Award in Amateur design - Lynn Simmons. These are prestigious awards.

The guest speaker for the program was Muriel Urban whose topic was Be Dramatic with Three to Five Flowers. The five arrangements which she made were given to club members to enjoy.

The Sumpwams Garden Club has many events planned in the coming months and the public is invited to all of them. For information regarding membership or interest in events, you may call 631-422-2901.
