Library budgets approved

+Babylon Library voters approved their budget 194-135. The budget for the coming year is $1,757,925, an increase in spending of approximately $126,000. This would increase the current tax rate of $8.59 to approximately $9.01 per $100 of assessed value.

+West Islip residents approved their library budget for 2007-08 in a vote April 17. The $3.09 million operating budget was passed 363 to 173. Mary Alice Markham was elected to a five-year term as Library Trustee with 190 votes. Two other candidates, Matthew Avitable and Michele Bencivini received 142 and 139 votes respectively.

"The Board wants to express their appreciation to all those residents who participated in this year's vote, especially the three Trustee candidates who all helped focus attention on the vote," said Board President Davine Schwarz. "As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of our library, we look forward to another year of serving the reading, viewing and listening needs of the West Islip community."

The approval will increase the tax appropriation 3.7 percent.

+West Babylon Library voters approved their budget 140-26. The budget is going from $2,703,300 to $2,873,568, bringing the new tax rate to $8.23 per $100 of assessed value, a 30-cent increase.

+Deer Park voters approved an increase in spending of approximately $147,000, passing a budget for the coming year of $2,895,853. That will increase the tax rate from $7.25 to $7.75 per $100 of assessed value. The vote was 147-63.

+North Babylon voters approved their budget 191 to 44. In that library district, the budget increase for the coming year is $100,830, raising the current budget of $2,581,145 to $2,681,975. The proposed tax rate increase is 33-cents bringing the current rate of $7.30 to $7.53 per $100 of assessed value.
