Public Commentary
Reader objects to newspaper's ad on Congressional vote...

Dear Editior:

It is with great disappointment that I read your "Ad placed April 11th edition, 'Politics over Patriotism' 18th edition). First, this is your opinion, and rather than an "Ad" it should have been placed as an editorial/opinion on the op/ed page.

All Americans agree that no matter where our troops are, they should and must be backed by all the resources of the United States. No one, either Republican or Democrat, disagrees with this. When our President sent them into Afghanistan, all of America agreed with him. After all, those who masterminded the 9/11 attacks were trained there.

But, shortly after this, our present admistration diluted this effort, and sent our troops without proper armament (body as well as vehicle armor) into Iraq under false pretenses (weapons of mass distruction). It has been well over 1,000 days since our President declared "mission accomplished", but families grieve at an ever increasing rate for the loss of their sons and daughters. It is time to end this unthought out and underplanned fiasco. Stop the flow of innocent blood (both ours and theirs), and let the politicians from around the world nego- tiate an acceptable end to this tragedy. Bring our troops home and let them protect us from within.

Dear Editor:

I am writing to express my appreciation for the April 11th ad in your paper, "Politics over Patriotism."

It is a pleasure to read a paper that supports our troops and exposes the representatives (?) in the House and Senate who voted against them. Thanks again for your stand.

The Imus, Jackson

and Sharpton affair Dear Editor:

While I have never been a fan of Don Imus, and actually have never listened to his program, I feel Revs. Sharpton and Jackson, should desist and perhaps get real positions.

Neither Sharpton nor Jackson showed Christian charity when they refused to accept Imus' apology.

The words he uttered have been heard in hip hop music, but neither Revs.Sharpton or Jackson have ever made a national issue of that problem. They have forgotten the old expression "sticks and stones will break my bones, names and faces never hurt."

By the way, Rev. Sharpton, we all still await your apology for the Twanna Brawley incident wherein your actions hurt many people.
