Annual tennis tournament registration begins June 1 at Hempstead Lake State Park

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has announced that the annual Open Tennis Tournament will begin this July at Hempstead Lake State Park.

This year's tournament, which is sponsored by Naudus Communications/Tribune, is scheduled to begin Monday, July 2 and continues through September 7. Registration will be conducted in person beginning June 1 through 30 at Hempstead Lake State Park or by mail to: Tennis Tournament, Hempstead Lake State Park, P.O. Box 66, West Hempstead, NY 11552. Entries will only be accepted during this time frame.

All entries must be made on the official entry card. An entry fee of $9 for singles and $12 for doubles must accompany all entries. Checks should be made payable to the Natural Heritage Trust Long island (NHT-LI). The entry fee also entitles participants to a tournament T-shirt. Sizes are guaranteed for registrants who apply on or before June 22.

Prizes and awards will be given for the following categories: men's and women's singles; men's and women's doubles and men's and women's mixed doubles. USLTA approved balls must be supplied by all contestants. Entries will not be accepted after Saturday, June 30.
