Santo Joseph Tavormina, longtime Massapequa K of C

Santo Joseph Tavormina, a longtime Knights of Columbus member and Massapequa resident died peacefully at his home on March 10, 2007. He was 82-years-old and a Knight for many years.

He served as a Private in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 and was a cannoneer in the 904th Field Artillery Battalion in the Normandy and Northern France campaigns.

Until his retirement, he worked for 25 years as a mechanical engineer for the government's National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration after which he worked as a sales associate at Sears.

Mr. Tavormina was a proud 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and a member of the American Legion, VFW and the Italian Catholic Federation, said his family.

He leaves behind his children: Jane Austin of Ontario, Canada and Mary Cook and her husband Tom of California; his brothers: Joseph and John; his grandchildren: Rosemary and Paul Cook, John and his wife Brittney Anne, Kevin and Nicholas Austin and Kristie, Lauren and Jennifer; his beloved pets: Frisbee, Daisy, Holly, Sweetie Pie, Robbie Burns and Howie Kazowie; as well as other loved ones and friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Rose and his brothers, Fidele and Carmelo.

Rev. Father Richard T. Stelter, pastor of St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial assisted the by Consolation Ministry and members of the family. Interment followed in Calverton National Cemetery with Military Honors.
