Lindenhurst kindergarteners explore Dinosaur Dimension Program

Lindenhurst's West Gates' kindergarteners enjoyed the interactive Dinosaur Dimension program that came to the school from the Long Island Science Center. Dinosaur Dimension is one of 40 different programs the center offers. This program is especially popular with the younger grades.

"It's a part of the Kindergarten Social Studies curriculum," stated teacher Mariann Pusateri. "The making of a fossil is hands-on learning." In the classroom, they spend time learning about the different types of dinosaurs, extinction and fossils.

With the help from Karen Geraci, an educator with the Long Island Science Center, each Kindergarten student got to make their own fossil with plaster. When the plaster dried, students were able to take it home. They can paint them or make necklaces, if they wanted. It peels like a banana when dry.

Shown in the photo, Lindenhurst's West Gates' Kindergarteners watch Karen Geraci from the LI Science Center pour plaster to make their dinosaur fossils.
