West Babylon Senior High students participate in mock financial day

On February 12 and 13, West Babylon Senior High School students from various business courses participated in a mock financial day. The school welcomed Connie LoCasio, founder of the not-for-profit Right Start Foundation, who educated the students on financial literacy and the dangers of credit card debt. Students were given imaginary salaries and demographics, such as marital status, occupation and number of dependents. Representatives from local businesses set up tables where students were asked to spend their "income" on the necessities of life and record balances in a check register. This exercise proved to be an eye opening experience for all. Students left with a better understanding of the importance of budgeting and maintaining good credit.

Connie LoCasio, Suffolk County Legislator Wayne Horsley; and Corrine DiSomma, Town of Babylon Receiver of Taxes; as well as representatives from Northwestern Mutual, ShopRite, Suffolk Federal Credit Union, Cingular Wireless, Arnold Buick, and Johnson and Johnson Agency participated in the mock financial day.
