Catherine Gaus, formerly of Massapequa and North Babylon Catherine M. Gaus, who lived in Massapequa and North Babylon, died March 11, 2007 in Kingston, New York. She was 77 years old and owned the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home in Kingston, New York. Born in Richmond Hill, New York on February 3, 1930 to James Joseph and Catherine Farrell Dempsey Wescott, she later graduated from John Adams High School in South Ozone Park, New York and worked as a dental assistant. She later lived in Floral Park, and in Massapequa during in the early 1960s and then in North Babylon where she spent 20 years on Thorne Street. She served on the Board of Elections in the Town of Babylon and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Islip. In 1982 she moved to Kingston and opened a family funeral home where she served hundreds of families over the last 24 years. Mrs. Gaus was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America (Court Santa Maria and the Ladies Auxiliary of Post 150) American Legion, and was a true lover of animals and nature. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 51 years, Robert C.; her son, Robert J.; six nieces and nephews; as well as other loved ones and friends. She was predeceased by brother, James Brooke Wescott and her beloved pet "Honey." Mrs. Gaus reposed at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, Kingston, New York, on March 13, 2007. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph's Church followed by interment in Montrepose Cemetery, Kingston, on March 14, 2007.
