Two in West Islip win National Hispanic Recognition

West Islip High School seniors Brianna Pomatico and Korina Figueroa are being recognized by the College Board's National Hispanic Recognition Program, reports Principal Ken Hartill. This program provides national recognition of the exceptional academic achievements of Hispanic high school seniors and identifies them for post-secondary institutions. The girls entered the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as high school juniors and by identifying themselves as Hispanic. Of the more than 175,000 test takers nationwide identified as Hispanic, only 4,700 are being recognized as National Hispanic Scholars based on their scores and academic achievements. An important component of this honor is the CD-ROM mailed to colleges and universities.
