Geraldine Bennett, longtime Amityville resident Longtime Amityville resident Geraldine "Gerry" Bennett died February 17, 2007 in Peoria, Arizona. She was 84 years old and lived in Amityville for many years. Born as Geraldine Edna Dryden on April 3, 1922 to Theadore and Mary (Jaworski) in West Seneca, New York and grew up in Buffalo. During the war she worked at the Curtiss Wright aircraft factory in Buffalo on the assembly line for the C-46 transport airplane. After the war, she and her husband moved to Amityville where they raised four sons. Mrs. Bennett dedicated her life to the care of her family and was a faithful supporter in many of the children's sports leagues and acted as a den mother for Boy Scouts. After working part time in the snack bar at Giorgini's Bowling Center on Merrick Road for a while, she worked for Del Labs Sally Hasen Cosmetics in Farmingdale for nine years. After her retirement in 1982, she moved to Arizona. According to her family, she loved to spend time with her grandchildren, traveling and taking part in church activities. She leaves behind her sons: Ronald of Bay Shore, Richard of Peoria, Arizona, David of West Islip and William of Houston, Texas; her six grandchildren; one great grandchildren; as well as other loved ones and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Kenneth in 2001.
A memorial service was held for Mrs. Bennett at Mission Bell United Methodist Church in Glendale, Arizona on February 24, 2007. Interment to follow at a later date at the family plot at St. John's Methodist Church in Elmont, New York.
