Farmingdale State College and LIEOC receive grants Dr. Veronica Henry, Dean and Executive Director of the Long Island Educational Opportunity Center, has been awarded several grants on behalf of the campus, LIEOC, and the Research Foundation of SUNY. A program of the State University of New York, the LIEOC's mission is to offer free academic, vocational, and counseling services to educationally and economically underserved adult residents of New York State. A $130,000 grant was received from the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) to be used for the selection and intensive trainingof individuals for data entry positions in the hospital, medical staff/health care, and support services field. MSSNY is an organization of approximately 30,000 licensed physicians, medical residents, and medical students in New York State who participate in both the state society and in their local county medical societies.
A $25,000 grant from Our Lady of Consolation Nursing & Rehabilitative and Geriatric Care Cen- ter will provide remedial education and academic preparation for its employees. The Center , a 450- bed facility located in West Islip, New York, offers a comprehensive index of services and programs geared to both adults and geriatric patients. Established in 1894, Our Lady of Consolation is a proven leader in continuing long term and post-acute care. Skilled nursing care includes geriatric care, rehabilitative care, ventilator care, dementia disease care and medically complex care. The Bio- Partners Emergent Training Program grant in the amount of $4,694 provides training to low-moderate income communities in basic skills so those participating can be placed in entry- level positions in the Bio-Tech/ Healthcare fields. In addition the College and the LIEOC received funding under the Carl D. Perkins III Act in the amount of $262,242. Brian Maher, coordinator of business affairs, is the Project Director for Perkins III activities.
