Mothers know best If there is one way to understand the impact of a home that is used for illegal drug and weapons activity on a community, it is to speak to the women who live nearby. That's exactly what we did this week as we covered the story about the three drug and weapons arrests that were made by police over a 9-month period last year at 37 Coolidge Avenue, Amityville. Their stories were chilling. A school bus stop is directly across from the home and children routinely get on and off the bus within a few hundred yards of where this dangerous activity is taking place on a daily basis. A preschool is being operated a few doors down, and children routinely walk or ride their bikes in front of the house going to and from the Amityville Middle School.
Town and county officials have to act and act quickly to ensure that this home is closed. It poses a perpetual threat to our children and all those who live in the area. Every day that it continues to be a haven for those who perpetuate the sale of illegal drugs in our communities, it reflects a level of tolerance we cannot afford our pass on to our children.
