Longtime Babylon Village resident Tom Sullivan, teacher and volunteer

Tom Sullivan,who resided many years in Babylon Village and was a wellloved community leader, passed away on Thursday, February 19, succumbing to complications following pneumonia.

Tom was born in Manhatten and, after

attending local

schools in New York City, he received his Bachelor's degree from SUNY Geneseo and his Master of Education degree at the University of Poitiers in France.

Following a four-year teaching career at American Dependent School in Orleans, France,Tom returned to the United States and joined the faculty of the Farmingdale school system in which he taught for thirty years.

Along with his love of teaching, Tom had a deep sense of comittment and devoted many years to volunteer activities. He served on the board of the American Red Cross until the time of his death. In addition, he co-chaired local golf tounaments, fund raisers for the Red Cross. He also served on the board of the Suffolk County Historical Society spending many hours on its behalf beseeching local legislators for financial support. As a member of the advisory council of the Lighthouse Preservation Society, he was among the 100 people honored at the Relighting of Lighthouse ceremony.

Tom served on the scholarship committee of the Babylon Village Historical Society and spent many hours selling raffles for the Conklin House Annual Village celebration.

In addition to Mary Ellen, his wife for 36 years, Tom is survived by brothers Joseph of Massapequa and Donald of Barnegat,N.J., 2 nieces, Joan and Christine of Wantagh,N.Y.; 2 nephews, Kevin Sullivan and Richard O'Donnell of Wilmington,N.C.; loving sister-and brother-inlaw Jane and Millard Warren of Babylon; John Byrns of West Islip; and grandnieces and grandnephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Tom on Tuesday, February 20 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Babylon.
