William Richardson: Amityville Caterer and Veteran

Former Amityville resident, caterer and decorated Army veteran, William "Streetman" Henry Richardson, Jr. died January 10, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. He was 77 years old and had been living in West Babylon for the last two years,

Born March 23, 1929 in Harlem to William H. and Stella (Whitfield), he later served in the Army during World War II stationed in the Aleutian Islands ad Great Falls, Montana.

For more than 25 years he worked as a maintenance man for the ACE Center in Amityville and was also a member of the Hunter Squires Jackson American Legion.

"He was a wonderful man with a sweet spirit who always had a smile on his face," said Alma Thomas of the Head Start Program at the ACE Center who had worked with Mr. Richardson for many years.

He also catered many events with delicacies cooked in his home and many a local loved to "Eat with the Street." He, in fact, catered many of the senior events at the ACE Center.

According to his wife, he was well known and well loved, a role model and above all, a great husband, father and grandfather.

Mr. Richardson leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Corrine C. of West Babylon; his sons: Douglas and his wife Yuri, Craig A. and his wife Wanda, Wade A. and his wife Yolanda, William T. and his wife Sharon and Ricky; his grandchildren: Wade A. Jr., Tyshawn R., Malaika, Serena and Sierra; a host of nieces and nephews; as well as other loved ones and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters.

Hunter Squires Jackson American Legion conducted a service at the Powell Funeral Home on January 16, 2007. Interment on January 17 at Calverton National Cemetery with Military Honors.
