Student assistants enhance chemistry instruction at Babylon High School

This past month Babylon High School Regents chemistry students worked on one of their more spectacular labs - The Flame Test Lab. The lab serves as sort of a "Who done it?" type lab introducing a touch of forensic science. This year, the entire lab was revamped by two of the laboratory assistants; Samantha Lipman and Rebecca McNamara. Both of these students had participated in the lab as sophomores and under the direction of their advisors, Steven Silipo, Jeffrey Kenney, and Judy Procaccini. The girls worked to improve the procedure not only for better results, but also to provide a safer environment for the students to work in. They are also involved in preparing the chemicals to be used during lab. The lab also involves collecting data on laptops and then using them to create an elaborate lab write-up.
