West Islip students participate in computer lab program
West Islip students in kindergarten through fifth grade at Bayview Elementary School are participating in a Computer Lab program titled Let's Say Thanks. Xerox Corporation provides the website www.letssaythanks.com that allows individuals to send free personalized postcard greetings to de- ployed servicemen and women around the world. Thirty postcards have been created by children across the country depicting patriotic scenes and hometown images, from which concerned citizens and students can choose. The children enter their first name only, hometown, and either send a prewritten message or write one of their own. When the students submit their postcards electronically, they're printed by Xerox and mailed in care packages by the military support organization Give2TheTroops®. There is no email involved - everything is completed on the website. The students add their names to a class sign that is displayed in the school, along with sample postcards and messages. These will be mailed to the troops as well, when the project is completed.
Shown in the photo, Coordinator and computer room teaching assistant Joanne LaDuca says, "The students are very excited to participate in this program, which allows them to use technology to say thanks to members of the military all over the world."
