Babylon math teacher attends technology conference
Babylon Junior-Senior High School math teacher Eric Reisert, shown in the photo, recently attended the annual SCOPE (Suffolk County Organization Promoting Education) Technology Conference at which he presented "Students Learning through Technology." The presentation was on a SmartBoard, the latest advance in helping students to learn better and understand more quickly, while at times seemingly teaching themselves through the board's interactive capabilities. Electronic white boards - as they are also known - allow for dynamic lessons in whole-class teaching with interaction by the students. Just as a computer is controlled by a "mouse" cursor, a SmartBoard, which can display computer images, is controlled by the touch of the teacher's finger. Images can be saved to the students' computers and printed later. Prices for one classroom SmartBoard range from $1,000 and up, depending on the type of technology used and the quality of the projection surface. "This technology provides students with the opportunity to teach their peers while educating themselves," Reisert told those at the conference. Babylon students say it has enhanced the learning process.
