At Lindenhurst's Harding Avenue School students were given an extra present this holiday season with a Character Education program featuring local artist John DiNaro. All students helped create four new murals to decorate the Harding halls around the All-Purpose Room and the front entrance to the school.

The front entrance mural displays an underwater scene with fish decorated from each student. There is a fishnet to the side of the mural that will honor students who are "caught doing well."

The murals are all Monet style, teaching the students about loose impressionistic styles of art. Students learned about paint dabbing, mixing light and dark and the "less is more" theory that lets a person's mind fill in the blanks. Harding students did all the designing and painting, as an artist would work.

DiNaro is a Long Island based artist and educates students throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties as part of the Arts-in-Education program. He works with children and adults and enjoys the impressionistic style. "I truly believe in creativity. We're all different and see the world differently," exclaimed DiNaro. "That's what makes us beautiful."
