E.W. Bower Elementary in Lindenhurst welcomes parents into the classroom

Teachers at E.W. Bower Elementary School in Lindenhurst welcomed parents into their classroom as part of American Education Week. The "Invite Parents to School Day" emphasized the importance of parental involvement in a child's educational career. Fourth grade teacher Kelly Rozea conducted an exercise in listening and note-taking for the students and their parents. Rozea began the lesson by reading a story called Spaghetti. She asked for the students to just listen to the story at first, visualizing and connecting with the story. Then, Rozea re-read the tale, allowing the students and their parents to take notes as the story was read. Rozea gave the students several note-taking tips, including thinking about the title characters, the setting, the problem, and the solution.

E.W. Bower was just one of many elementary schools throughout the district that opened its doors to parents during American Education Week.

Shown in the photo, fourth grade student Syanne Sonnenberg and her mother take notes during a lesson celebrating American Education Week.
