Rall Elementary in Lindenhurst dances to the beat with "Hip Pickles"

In late November, William Rall Elementary students in Lindenhurst danced and grooved to the beat of Hip Pickles, an awardwinning percussion ensemble based on Long Island. Students learned about many different percussion instruments, from the snare drum and tambourine, to the maracas and cow bell. The Hip Pickles ensemble immediately entranced the audience with their infectious beats and singing - William Rall students clapped, stomped their feet, and sang along the entire show.

The PTA-sponsored Arts-In-Education program not only entertained the students, but taught them an important lesson, as well. Hip Pickles told students, "Like the different instruments you see here, people are different. Being different is a good thing. When we play the different instruments together, it makes a beautiful sound. Just treat others the way that you want to be treated."

Shown in the photo, William Rall students participate in the Hip Pickles show by demonstrating various percussion instruments.
