Babylon student councils collect for holiday food drive
The Student Councils at Babylon Memorial Grade School continue to work hard in assisting families experiencing a crisis. Both the Third and Fourth Grade Council and the Fifth and Sixth Grade Council shared responsibilities in the annual school-wide Holiday Food Drive. The children collected and packaged over 45 boxes of food for four local families in need. The deliveries were made under the direction of school counselor Linda Rich and volunteers from the custodial staff. The Third and Fourth Grade Council also made holiday snowmen ornaments and cards, working with teacher Kelly Arcoleo, while the Fifth and Sixth Grade council held "Hats on for the Holidays," raising more than $800 under the guidance of teacher Rita Bartenback. The money was used to purchase gift certificates at Toys R Us for 12 local children's holiday stockings and board games for the Good Samaritan Hospital Pediatrics Ward. Additionally, the children adopted four Salvation Army Angels through the Babylon Lions Club.
