Babylon Village resident and Lion, Ross Vedder

Longtime Babylon Village resident and former high school teacher, Ross Vedder, died December 30, 2006. He was 97 years old and had lived on Ketewamoke Avenue for 70 years.

Mr. Vedder was a retired Port Jefferson High School industrial arts teacher specializing in wood shop. He taught for 41 years and the Marion G. Vedder Elementary school in North Babylon is named after his late wife.

He was a dedicated lifetime member of the Babylon Lions Club, a Mets fan and "just a great guy," according to his 60-year friend Thomas Smith, who was a former student of Mrs. Vedder's.

He leaves behind his niece, Donna Westgate; his close friends: Thomas B. Smith, Mary Jane Simmons, Rose Marie Reina, Phyllis Levy, Dorothea Kuebler, Josephine Lukashuk, Michaelange Romelien, Mariya Bondura and Martha Lubin; as well as other loved ones. He was predeceased by his wife, Marion.

Mr. Vedder reposed at the Frederick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home on January 3, 2007 where a religious service was held. Interment followed in Upstate New York.
