Two arrested and charged in robbery-shooting incident Suffolk County Police have arrested two men for a gunpoint robbery and related shooting in West Babylon Tuesday, January 23. Police gave this account: Two victims, Charles Haynes, 34, and Edward Boateng, 33, both of West Babylon, were sitting in a parked vehicle in the driveway of a residence on Hilltop Drive when they were accosted by two men, one of whom was brandishing a pistol. The two men forcibly took money and a cell phone from the victims and fled on foot. The two victims, with Haynes driving, chased the suspects in their car. In the area of Hilltop Drive and Arizona Avenue, one of the suspects turned and fired his gun at the vehicle. Haynes then drove his vehicle into one of the suspects, launching him into the air and into a fence. The suspect got back up and he and his accomplice entered a silver 2003 Honda that was being driven by Delphia Robinson, 21, of 107 North 22nd Street, Wyandanch, and fled. Haynes then drove his vehicle into the Honda, causing damage to the rear quarter panel before the Honda drove away. Police recovered a loaded 22 caliber revolver at the scene, along with other items that were dropped by the shooter after he was struck by the victim's vehicle. Police Officer Stacey Cuneen from the First Precinct spotted the Honda after responding officers put out notification with the description of the vehicle. Officer Cuneen, along with other officers, stopped the vehicle in the area of 51 South 31st Street, Wyandanch and took Delphia Robinson and one of the assailants, Donte Battin, 21, of 46 Doolittle Street, Brentwood, into custody. Robinson and Battin were charged with Robbery 1st Degree and Criminal Use of a Firearm 1st Degree. They will be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.
The investigation is continuing and First Squad detectives are still seeking the third suspect who fired the weapon and was struck by the victim's car.
