GSH welcomes new board member

Michael Lessing, of Islip, was recently appointed to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center's Board of Trustees. Lessing has been actively involved with the hospital since 2000, participating on both the Ball and Golf Classic committees. He served as a co-chairperson for the Medical Center's Annual Ball in 2005 and chairperson of its Ninth Annual Golf Classic in 2006.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees John Van Bourgondien stated, "Mr. Lessing is a valuable addition to Good Samaritan's Board. He is an enthusiastic individual who is actively involved in improving the welfare of our community."

Lessing is executive vice president of Lessing's hospitality company, well known on Long Island for its culinary expertise and catering management. Lessing's was established in 1890 by Maxwell Lessing and remains family-owned and operated. Some Lessing's properties include the Riverview Restaurant, the Post Office Café, the Maine Maid Inn, Timber Point and West Sayville Country Clubs, the Bourne Mansion and the Vanderbilt Mansion.

"I'm looking forward to continuing my work with Good Samaritan in this new role and in assisting the hospital as they bring so much to our local community," says Lessing. "It's an honor for me to join the members of Good Samaritan's Board of Trustees and I am excited about this opportunity to become even more involved with the hospital."

Lessing graduated from St. John the Baptist High School in West Islip and attended Stonehill College in Massachusetts. He has worked in the family business since 1984. Lessing and his wife, Terri, have two children, Michael and Maggie.
