Students acknowledged for excellence in sports

J. Wayne Shierant, Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Health and Recreation for the West Islip School District proudly announces the following students, teams and coaches have received post season recognition for their participation in the Fall sports programs.

Acknowledged for girls varsity gymnastics: All League are Lauren Spagnoletta, Jamie Colquhoun, Victoria Scuteri, Gabrielle Pirkl, Blair Engeldrum, Kailey Lyons and Melanie Schaeffner; All County -Caitlin Keane and Team: Scholar /Athlete Team Award.

Those recognized for girls varsity soccer are All League - Jenny Lillis; All Conference: Rebecca Richman and Amanda Fontana; All County is Erin Walter; Other Honors: JV Coach of the Year - Nick Grieco and Team- Scholar /Athlete Team Award.

Recognized for boys varsity soccer are: All League are Matt Boily, James Ohrenberger and Jerry Nobile; All Conference are Ryan Sepe, Pat Cantwell and Mike Porcelli; All County are Mike Porcelli and Pat Cantwell and Academic All County: Rod

Alzmann.

Acknowledge for girls varsity cross country are All League - Kelly McNicholas and Lauren Brandt and Team -Scholar /Athlete Team Award.

Those recognized for boys cross country: are All League are Dan Gargaro, Brian Doxey, Kevin Gleeson and Brian Whelton; All Division are Dan Gargaro, Kevin Gleeson, Brian Whelton, Brian Doxey and Joe Clark ; Team -Scholar /Athlete Team Award and Second Place Division II.

Acknowledged for boys varsity volleyball are All League - John Marinello, Frank Gregorio and Brian Burke; All Division are Greg Durante and Chris Felix; All County - is Brian Caufield and Team Scholar /Athlete Team Award.

Recognized varsity volleyball are All League - Chelsea Wood, Michelle Cozier and Jean Marie Weber; All League Honorable Mention: Courtney Schneck and Alyssa Cestaro; All County - Mary Curran and Dana Hannsgen; All County/All Tournament -Mary Curran, Dana Hannsgen and Chelsea Wood; Team: Scholar /Athlete Team Award and Co-League Champions .

Acknowledged for girls varsity tennis are All League: Courtney Line, Kelsey Kjeldsen, Kelly Whalen and Jessica Komoroski and Ali Calabrese; All County- MacKenzie Kurek, Meg McAteer; All State - Kristin Alotta - five time Division II Single Champion; third in Section XI Tournament; Team:

Scholar/Athlete Team Award; Division II and League III Champions and sixth Place in County.

Recognized for girls varsity swimming are All League - Sarah Culmo, Julia English, Meredith English and Olivia Matthes, Casey McGowan,

Allison Pelle, Kristen Pfaffe and Amanda Toolan;

Team: Scholar/Athlete Team Award; Fourth Place in League II Championships and 10th Place in County Finals.

Acknowledged for varsity football are All Division: Mike Lorentzen, Dennis Faherty, Sean Einhart and Derek Speziale; All Division Second Team:-John Rushton, Andrew Busweiler and Bob Kampson; All County: Justin Turri, Tyler Turri and Terry Culkin ; Team: Scholar/Athlete Team Award; Big Four Champions and Semi-Finalists.

Recognized for varsity field hockey are: All Division are Ashley Schneider, and Rebecca Monteith; All Conference - Chelsea Reimer; All County- Karen Federico and Taryn Crimi; ll-County Honorable Mention: - Kelly Calabrese; All State Exceptional Senior - Karen Federico; - Empire Team, Bronze Medal; Played on National Tournament Team and Team: Scholar/Athlete Team Award and Division II Champions.

Acknowledge for boys varsity golf are All League: Sean Keller, Joe Arnold, John Scarpinito, Pat Brady, Matt Haydon and Tom Bieselin and Other Team Honors: League Champion and first place in Molloy Invitational.
