Deer Park students videoconferencing expands learning opportunity

Technology and world language combine to teach students in Deer Park in a multi-layered, collaborative effort. Alex Lima's senior Spanish language students taught a lesson to Patty Eysser's first grade class at May Moore via the district's first intra-school video conferencing event. The high school students sang songs, played counting and animal name games and interacted with their younger counterparts, all through the television monitor in "live" time. Video conferencing can be a valuable tool in teaching students more effective communication and presentation skills, as well as bringing the larger global community directly into the classroom.

"The children were so excited to be part of this unique lesson, and it is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn in the 21st century," noted Director of World Languages Gina Palasciano. "The video conference is a wonderful enhancement to our traditional learning experiences."
