West Islip Board of Education praises athletic achievements
The West Islip Board of E d u c a t i o n honored its outstanding athletes, who are also academic champions, during its regularlys c h e d u l e d J a n u a r y meeting.
Shown with (at left) Board P r e s i d e n t George Smith, Vice President Barbara McAteer, Superintendent Dr. Beth Virginia Blau and Athletic Director Wayne Shierant, are most of the athletes who were presented with Certificates of Achievement that night. Honorees were Megan McAteer and MacKenzie Kurek for All-County girls varsity tennis; Kristin Alotta, All-State girls varsity yennis, in addition to Scholar Athlete Team Award, Division II and League III Champions, and Sixth Place in Suffolk County; Mary Curran and Dana Hannsgen, All-County girls varsity volleyball and scholar/athlete team award; Caitlin Keane, All-County girls varsity gymnastics and scholar/ athlete team award; Erin Walter, All- County girls varsity soccer, Nick Grieco, junior varsity coach of the year, and the scholar/athlete team award; Michael Porcelli and Patrick Cantwell, All-County boys varsity soccer, Rod Alzmann, scholar/athlete team award; Brian Caufield, All- County boys varsity volleyball and scholar/athlete Tteam award; Justin Turri, Tyler Turri and Terence Culkin, All-County varsity football and scholar/athlete team award, Big Four champions, and county semi-finalists; Karen Federico, All-County and All- State Varsity field hockey Exceptional Senior, Taryn Crimi, All-County varsity field hockey, and scholar/athlete team award and Division II Champions.
