History of Babylon Village's holiday sled

Dear Editor:

My husband Doug and I are lifelong residents of Babylon Village. Upon reading the Beacon issue of December 28, 2006, we were surprised to see the sled we donated to the Village.

Back a few years ago, when Don Conroy was Mayor and Kenny Rohl was still alive, my husband and I were deciding what to do with an old sled that we had in our backyard at our shop,Keyser 's Flowers. Kenny Rohl came in to buy a rose and we asked him what he thought we should do. He replied that we should speak to Don and ask him if the Village wanted it because it looked to him like an antique. So my husband called and spoke to Don.

Don and Skip came down to our shop and went into the backyard with my husband. They liked what they saw. Don then said they would take the sled and restore it and if they ever got the Conklin House going they could use it there.

I don't know if George Keyser ever owned the sled, because he never owned the property where we are now located since the '60s. We thought you might be interested in knowing about the sled a little bit more.
