Scrooge steals gift cards from needy children

Thief caught on surveillance tape
First Squad Detectives and Suffolk County Crime Stoppers are looking to identify a subject who stole gift cards meant for needy children from a local church.

On December 18, 2006 if was discovered that approximately 100 gift cards, valued at almost $2,000, were stolen from the office of the United Methodist Church, 21 James Street, Babylon. The cards had been purchased by the parishioners for adopted teens from St. Christopher-Ottilie in Brentwood.

Investigators were able to get video surveillance at a local Target store of a male using the stolen gift cards. Police are looking for a black male, wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential and the caller will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2000.00 for information that leads to an arrest.
