Suffolk County Police are investigating a motor vehicle crash which occurred on Straight Path and Gordon Ave. West Babylon on Friday night, January 12, 2007.

A 15-year-old Wyandanch female was seriously injured in the car crash. The girl was a passenger in a northbound 1992 Honda driven by Damien Branch, 25, of 1177 Joselon Ave. Bay Shore. The passenger was taken to Nassau University Medical Center by Suffolk County Police Helicopter where she will undergo emergency surgery for a ruptured aorta. The passenger sustained additional injuries which included a fractured pelvis, broken ribs and a severe head laceration. As of late last week she was reported to be recovering.

The passenger's mother as well as a 15 year old friend were also passengers in the vehicle and were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital by West Babylon Rescue for treatment of minor injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was Jose Amaya, 28, of 21 Walbridge Ave. Bayshore. Amaya was driving a 1992 Isuzu on the wrong side of the road southbound on Straight Path when the crash occurred. Amaya was also taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was treated and released with minor injuries. Amaya was issued a summons for a traffic violation and alcohol was ruled out as a factor in this incident.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing.
