Good Samaritan Hospital welcomes new board member

Salvatore F. Sodano, former head of the American Stock Exchange (Amex), former vice chairman of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) and current dean of Hofstra University's Frank G. Zarb School of Business, recently joined Good Samari- tan Hospital Medical Center's Board of Trustees. Sodano was a member of the oversight committee for Catholic Health Services and has served as an advisor to Good Samaritan's finance committee for several years. He is also a former chair of Hofstra's board of trustees.

Chairman of Good Samaritan's Board of Trustees John Van Bourgondien stated, "Mr. Sodano brings superior leadership skills and a strong financial background to the Medical Center's Board. His integrity and professionalism make him a welcomed addition to the Good Samaritan family."

Sodano was credited with helping the exchange recover from the tragic events of September 11, 2001. On September 11, the Amex headquarters was damaged and several exchange members lost their lives. Within six days, Sodano reopened the exchange for business. He served as its chairman and chief executive officer from 1999-2004 and as chairman to 2005. He is the recipient of the Monsignor Thomas J. Hartman Award from Telecare, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor Award, the 2000 Alumni Achievement Award from Hofstra University and was named Man of the Year by the American Stock Exchange 5&20 Club in 2001.

Sodano stated, "It is an honor for me to be part of the team of professionals at Good Samaritan. The Medical Center is a vital part of the health care delivery system in Suffolk County and I look forward to continuing my association with them."

Sodano received a bachelor's degree in accounting and economics and master's degree in banking and finance from Hofstra University. He is a member of the Economic Club of New York.
