Dorothy Baxter: former Babylon Town Building's Dept. employee

Former Town of Babylon employee and dedicated mother of six, Dorothy Conlon Baxter died December 12, 2006 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. She was 85.

Born May 27, 1921 to Edward and Kathryn Conlon in Brooklyn, she grew up in Amityville Village and attended St. Martin's and Amityville High School. After raising her children, she went to work for the Town in the Buildings Department, until her retirement.

Mrs. Baxter enjoyed her volunteer work at the Good Samaritan Thrift Store, at St. Vincent DePaul Society where she was treasurer and at St. Martin of Tours, where she was also a longtime parishioner.

In her spare time she loved to read, play bridge and spend time with her beloved children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Baxter leaves behind her children: Penny Walter of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Brian of Bluffton, South Carolina, Janie Seiman of Amityville, Mark of Southold and Margo Lasker of Amityville; her grandchildren: Jill Seiman, Jeffrey Seiman, Jason, Katherine, Thomas, Sean, James Lasker, Alexandra Lasker, J.C. and Lauren; her sisters: Kathryn Conboy and Joan Garry; her sister-in-law and dear friend: Wilma Conlon; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin; her son, John Clifford; her sister, Eileen Brown; and her brothers: Thomas Conlon and Norman Conlon.

The Rev. Richard Stelter, pastor of St. Martin of Tours, officiated at the Funeral Service December 16, 2006 followed by interment in the Amityville Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Powell Funeral Home, Inc.
