Resident looks to put Babylon Town on the board
Just ask 25-year North Babylon resident, Maria Pagano, a 25-year-old singlemother that has been "playing Monopoly since [she] was in elementary school." She is also a devoted "fan of the MacDonald's Monopoly game." The pure enjoyment of playing Monopoly which has been sold in 80 countries and produced in 26 languages, combined with a bit of luck on her end, led Maria to establish her own version of the board game: Babylonopoly. "While browsing Craigslist.com, Icame across Teaneckopoly, a Monopoly board game created by Teaneck, New Jersey, residents Aaron Klein, and Evin Majzner, who had established the game for Teaneck residents three years ago, and were branching out,"said Maria, who works part time for E. A. Burg, a merchandising company on Long Island. "They are giving me all the resources," she added, "But, I'm responsible for advertising." Maria plans on going into the Babylon, West Babylon, and North Babylon communities to pitch her idea to "local businesses," who she said, "will pay for their advertising spot on the board game." "I plan on approaching business that I believe epitomize those communities," she said. And with her eyes locked on those areas, Maria said, "the game will be a good souvenir...[as it] will feature all local landmarks and local businesses" of the area. When asked what she hopes to achieve by creating Babylonopoly. She simply responded, "To bring the community together and generate community interest." In the critical times we live in, with the Nation at odds, divided among several issues, particularly the November Elections which loom in the near future, let us hope that Maria's Babylonopoly has what it takes to bring a people together, get them passionate once again over an American pastime.
Monopoly was created by Charles B. Darrow in 1934 and sold to the Parker Brothers in 1935. Today, it is sold in some 80 countries and produced in 26 languages. For more information on the Babylon game, contact Maria Pagano by email at Babylonopoly@yahoo.com.
