She quickly became Associate Administrator and remained in that position for 16 years. Sister earned a master's degree in religious studies and clinical pastoral education. In 1982 she transferred to the Pastoral Care Department enabling her to spend more time with patients and their families. In 2000, Sister Gertrude was presented with the prestigious Samaritan Award from the Medical Center.

Sister Mary Anna joined Good Samaritan in 1998 and was appointed Director of Pastoral Care in 2003. She has been an Amityville Dominican Sister since 1956, taking her final vows in 1961, and a Chaplain since 1977. Sister is certified as a Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor and in Thanatology: Death, Dying and Bereavement. She also holds a master's degree in special education for the disabled. Prior to joining Good Samaritan she served as Director of Pastoral Care at St. Mary's Hospital in Bedford- Stuyvesant, Brooklyn for 15 years.
