Town and Lindenhurst Village should get together on plan for truck route

Thanks to the Village of Lindenhurst for cleaning up and clearing out the garbage, debris and overgrowth along a truck route in Lindenhurst between John Street and the railroad crossing at the end of Niagara Avenue.

The street is under the dual jurisdiction of the Town of Babylon and the Village, with the Village assuming the largest portion. It has also been notoriously neglected and after comments in this space, the Village sent highway crews to clean it up, making it not only nicer to drive through but safer.

One suggestion we would make now is to have the Village and the Town form an agreement to have one or the other assume responsibility for the roadway, which would clear up a sticky problem. Perhaps the Town can give the Village some service in exchange for the Village caring for its part of the roadway?

In any case, we're glad the Village acted; the road looks great. We hope too that the unconscionable people who have used this road for a dumping ground will think better of it.
