Main House tours at Connetquot River State Park Preserve

Connetquot River State Park Preserve, on Sunrise Highway in Oakdale, is offering tours of the South Side Sportsmen's Club Main House. Tours are held every Sunday afternoon between 1 to 4 p.m. with the last tour starting at 3:30 p.m. Tours run every Sunday from February 4 until June 10, 2007.

The Main House was once the clubhouse of the South Side Sportsmen's Club of Long Island which was established in 1866. Park visitors will visit the rod room, ladies and men's Dining Room, kitchen, sitting rooms, ball room,

bedroom and billiard room, where Theodore Roosevelt, Ulysses S. Grant and other prominent men sat around a Ben Franklin stove after a day of fishing the Connetquot River. Tours will take people throughout most of the first floor of this historic building and up the stairs to one of the bedrooms.

A $6 parking fee per car will be charged at the gate. Tours are $3 per adult and $2 per child. Children under age three are free. For more information, call 631-581-1072.
