Dix Hills home burglary on video;police seek public's help in apprehending thief

Suffolk County Second Squad Detectives and Crime Stoppers are asking the public's help in locating and identifying a subject caught on home video surveillance as he steals money, jewelry and watches from a local home.

On Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 12:10 PM, a lone male subject activated the video system on a Dix Hills home as he ransacked the home looking for items to steal. The subject is seen entering the house, walking through the house, pilfering through the homeowner's closets and then leaving the house. The video is extremely clear and investigators are hoping that someone will recognize the man and call authorities.

The thief is described as a white male, possibly Hispanic, in his 20's, 5feet, 8 inches tall, medium to heavy build. He was wearing baggy clothing, a yellow Timberland shirt and Timberland boots.

Proceeds from the burglary were jewelry including a Chopard diamond ring, watches including a Bedat & Co. watch as well as cash. The total proceeds were in excess of $30,000.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220- TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential and the caller will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2000.00 for information that leads to an arrest. See attached video of burglar in action.
