Hank Masone, former West Islip Marine Lt. Colonel

Former West Islip resident Henry "Hank" Masone III, who was a Lt. Colonel with the U.S. Marine Corps., died August 15, 2007 in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Born in Brooklyn to Henry and Catherine, he was a Citadel graduate who worked for Winthrop University Hospital for 17 years. He served 30 years in the U.S. Marines, serving in Afghanistan and Bosnia, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, The American Legion Frank Roach Post 34 and VFW Post 2889.

He leaves behind his wife, Dorothy; his children: Robert Patrick of North Carolina and Samuel McCleskey of North Carolina and Amanda Elizabeth Hosenfeld of Rock Hill, South Carolina. His aunt, Lee Forlano of Las Vegas, Nevada; his brother George of Long Island; his half- brother Michael Romanelli of Long Island; his half-sister Lucy Vaccarella of Long Island, and his two grandsons also survive him. He was predeceased by his uncle, Jack Forlano.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held August 18, 2007 at St. Anne's Catholic Church, in South Carolina, with Rev. Father Joseph Wahl officiating. Private interment followed. Arrangements were under the direction of the Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Mr. Masone's value for life continued even through death with the donation of his organs and tissues said his family,
