Jean Gesualdi, formerly of Babylon Village
Long time Babylon resident Jean Gesualdi, nee Perricone, died on July 27, 2007. She was 89-yearsold.
Ms. Gesualdi was born on June 5, 1918 in West Babylon and later moved to Babylon. As a high school student, she enjoyed playing basketball. She had a hard time joining the High School Babylon Basketball team however, because she didn't want to play against her former teammates in West Babylon.
After graduating Babylon High School in 1936, she went off to business school at the Packard School Business College in New York City, where she was trained in bookkeeping.
She was married for 25 years to Joseph Gesualdi, who predeceased her in 1974, She loved to cook, and her specialty was preparing a wide variety of Italian recipes. She became very involved with the Women's League at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Ms. Gesualdi worked in Babylon Village at the Suffollk Country Federal Bank in Babylon as a bookkeeper until she retired in 1989.
Her retirement years were spent in Florida, and she became a regular fixture at the local senior group. She spent many nights attending dinner dances. "She was a great dancer," recalls her older brother John Perricone. She also joined a walking group for seniors, and acquired a dear friend, Serigo Sciancalepore, with whom she enjoyed walking
Her brother Joseph remembers his sister as woman who took life in stride.
"She was a peaceful person, easy going person, unlike me," she said laughing. "She also liked day dreaming."
In addition to her brother Joseph, Ms. Gesualdi is survived by her brother John Perricone and his wife Gaetane Perricone; her brother Vincent Perricone and his wife Madeline Perricone of Springhill, Florida; and a sister, Vierginia Birkmier of Florida. She is also survived by many necies and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her huband Joseph Gesualdi and her brother-in-law Harry Birkmier.
Interment was private at St. Joseph Cemetery in Babylon, with graveside services, under the direction of Noce Funeral Home, West Babylon.
