West Islip's Captree Elementary School hosts birthday brunch
West Islip's Captree Elementary School, which has been celebrating its 50th birthday throughout this school year, concluded its festivities with a Saturday birthday party on May 19, for former students, staff, PTAs, administrators and Board Trustees. Current students provided guided tours of the building, the fourth and fifth grade chorus provided entertainment, the PTA provided food, a time capsule was created, and Suffolk County Treasurer Angie Carpenter, shown in photo, and West Islip Chamber of Commerce Vice President Joe DiPalma presented a proclamation and plaque. Among the highlights of the party were new alumni pictures being taken and tiles individually painted by guests that together form a mural of the school that is being permanently placed on display.
