John Davis grew up in Babylon Village at a time when kids were allowed to run free and experience the joys of childhood in wooded areas, at the beach and most important, at the local fishing hole. He enjoyed all of that with his twin brother Peter, and the two were inseparable throughout their lives.

John H. Davis, 66, died July 1, 2007 following a long fight against cancer.

"He was a fun guy," said his brother. "I loved him very much and will miss him."

Mr. Davis spent his entire life in Babylon. He and his twin brother took full advantage of their likeness to avoid trouble in school and get away with some juvenile mischief. "We were basically good kids and it was a different world," said Peter.

Mr. Davis worked for the State Bridge Maintenance section at the Babylon yard. He retired in 2000 after 37 years of service.

Following his retirement, Mr. Davis did what he loved best: fish. "He was down at the Babylon dock, every day, rain or shine," said his brother. "He would be there for hours and when I would remind him that it was raining he would say 'we'll dry."

In addition to his brother Peter, Mr. Davis is survived by his son John and daughter-in-law Rachel of West Babylon; his brother William of Babylon and his sisters Margery Kirkup of Bay Shore and Ethel Larned of Florida. His grandson Benjamin also survives him, as do many nieces and nephews. His wife Patricia predeceased him in 2005.

Funeral services for Mr. Davis were at the Boyd- Spencer Funeral Home, 448 West Main St., Babylon. A religious service was held there on Tuesday, July 3 with Rev. Ray Lang of Babylon Methodist Church officiating. Cremations services were private.
