THEY WALKED FOR CANCER. A large group of ladies, among them breast cancer survivors held a two-day run to raise money for breast cancer last weekend at Smith Point Park. Among the participants was Barbara Schaefer, whose mother Katharine Fallon is a survivor. Congratulations to Barbara who raised a whopping $1,800 for the cause. Large crowds were on hand to watch at the finish line, and the gals were greeted by bagpipers and Coast Guard boats could be seen sailing on the bay All who ran agreed, it was a very successful event.

AND MORE ON THE SCHAEFERS. Several weeks ago we asked our readers for information on an SUV at the Babylon Yacht Club with a New Smyrna Beach sticker and a license plate reading WAFER. We wanted to know who owned the car, etc. Well, folks now the mystery is solved. The car belong to Larry Schaefer. Why WAFER instead of SCHAEFER? That's because the Schaefer's little son pronounced "Schaefer," "Wafer." Are we making ourselves clear?

A FASCINATING TRIP. Local gals Elena de Murias, Ellen Garvey and Adriana Keller, along with Ellen's aunt, Cynthia Prince of Florida, are back from the trip of a lifetime. The gals enjoyed a week's long tour of Cuba, sponsored by the Episcopal Church. They were able to tour the beautiful country and visit hospitals, nursing homes, schools and other points of interest, and brought "goodies" and medicines to the people who have been deprived of many items because of the embargo. Wrigley's gum was a very popular item, especially with the elderly who remembered the taste from before the revolution. Elena's great grandfather and her grandfather were born in Cuba and the group discovered the graves of two of Elena's family members at the Carbone Cemetery. The hotels were first class, and the food was delicious they said. They say Cuba will undergo drastic changes when the developers invade the country. So they were fortunate to see the country as it will be for a while. Elena said, "I hope the charm and the magic remains."

SEND GET WELL WISHES to Mary Gallagher who is a patient at Our Lady of Consolation Nursing Home where she is undergoing physical therapy. Mary had hip replacement surgery at St. Catherine of Sienna Hospital in Smithtown last week. Get well real soon, Mary.

THERE'S STILL TIME to get your tickets for one of the most important event of the year in Babylon Village, the All-Village Celebration coming up on July 8. Tickets will be available at the door, and all are welcome. Talked to cochairman Trustee Alice Vanderveldt who said tickets and raffles are going very well. You'll see lots of local friends, as well as out-oftowners like Michelle and Blake Gilmore who are flying east from California for the big affair. Proceeds from this party make many local events at the Conklin House possible - the Irish Story Teller, Apples and Art, Art Armid and of course the dazzling Christmas Open House, enjoyed by hundreds of our residents. For any of these events, there is no cost. So come down next Sunday afternoon and join the crowd to honor this year's honoree, Mary Ellen Sullivan.

A POWERFUL AND MOVING CEREMONY was held at St. Joseph's Church last week to celebrate the ordinate of Babylon's own Reverend Joseph Fitzgerald. Many people participated in the mass, and Father Fitzgerald thanked those who made the day possible, including his family, Father Chris Heller and the staff at St. Joseph's the music ministry led by Gene Coughlin of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, his friends and many others. It was a very special day for all of us at St. Joseph's and of course a very special day in the life of Father Joseph Fitzgerald.
