Michael Alfano: dedicated Brightwaters Village deputy mayor
Carmine Michael Alfano, who was just reelected as trustee and Assistant Mayor for the Village of Brightwaters, so loved his community he tirelessly dedicated himself to serving it. Mr. Alfano, known as "Michael" died January 24, 2007 at the age of 75.
"I feel like someone took my right arm," said Mayor Joseph McNulty who had worked closely with Mr. Alfano the last 15 years.
"He was a tremendous friend and a dedicated servant to the Village. We'll all miss him."
Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Bay Shore then in Brightwaters for 34 years. In his beloved Village, Mr. Alfano served for nine years as an appointed Trustee and sat on the Board of Appeals for almost as long.
Professionally he had worked as a clinical pharmacist for more than 40 years and was the Director of Pharmacy at the North Shore/Glen Cove Hospital until his retirement in 1996. He was past president of the Nassau/Suffolk Pharmaceutical Society and loved to play golf in his spare time.
Mr. Alfano leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Mary; his children: Margaret Rogan and her husband Christopher and Michael and his wife Livia; his grandchildren: Brian, Jennifer, Kathryn, Carlo and Isabella; his brother, Joseph C.; as well as other loved ones and many friends.
He reposed at the Overton Funeral Home, Islip, on January 25 and 26, 2007. A Mass of Christian Burial was held January 27, 2006 at St. Patrick's R.C. Church in Bay Shore followed by a private cremation.
