North Babylon High School honored with school distinction award
The North Babylon athletic teams received a big state honor. NYSPHSAA handed out the Scholar Athlete Team Award to North Babylon High School because 100 percent of its varsity teams qualified to be listed on the Association's Academic Honor Roll as a School of Distinction. A Scholar Athlete Team is a varsity team earning a 90 percent team GPA during their sports season.
During 2005-06, statewide, the NYSPHSAA named nine high schools Schools of Distinction. All 25 varsity teams qualified as State Scholar Athlete Teams, making North Babylon eligible to receive this award.
Over the past two years, only four schools from Section XI, Suffolk County, have been named Schools of Distinction. North Babylon is one of only 17 schools in the state to have received this award to date.
